Party Poopers?! Nah, Just Lame Idiots.

I found this article earlier today and found it rather interesting.

So this link is to an article in the Brockton Enterprise that I thought would get some feedback from you guys. My thoughts on this include; but, are not limited to:

1. Maybe if the media stopped posting pointless stories about college parties at BSU, strange people that don't go to the college might not have any interest since all they hear about is all the hard partying being done here.

2. Hey Julius and Ethel Rosenberg- yeah you. Get off your high horses. You are honestly that naive to think that every single kid that gets arrested deserves to be expelled?  What if someone is in the wrong place at the wrong time? What if a kid makes one bad mistake? We all make mistakes from time to time. You really think that is the right idea? Were you never an 18, 19, or 20 year old kid before that tried to sneak a little sip? Oh right, back in your day the drinking age was 18! So you never even had these set backs and drinking was legal while you attending college. Just saying.

3. People party on Burrill Ave. We've known this for years. This isn't news. Every college has its’ certain areas/houses known for parties.

In all honesty I could care less about this since I'm 22 and legally able to drink. I just think it is ridiculous how such a big deal is made about this. These residents moved right next to a college campus, what did they expect? (Granted maybe they moved there before BSU was dry or other circumstances etc.) This is clearly a popular topic on campus it seems at some point in time, every year. It's starting to become a broken record. For starters, I think that this article blows things out of proportion and exaggerates a bit. I mean, yes, no college student likes/wants to hear about situations of knives and guns being on campus and at college parties. But, at the same time, all college students shouldn't be punished for one or two students' poor choices and poor behaviors.
These people (who have complained many times before) seem to just have nothing better to do than complain about living next to "rowdy, dangerous and party-holic college students." Not ALL college students are bad people. Not ALL college students’ party. Not ALL college students bring knives or guns to parties. It's is just a select few who happen to be at these places and cause problems. But, if you handle it properly (i.e. calling the cops, 9-11, etc.) why should everyone be punished?! You can host a party responsibly and have ONE person get extremely drunk and cause problems—but, should YOU be solely punished or held responsible for someone who is legal to drink and made poor judgments’ on their own? I mean, yes, it is your house—but, why should someone be 100% responsible for someone else’s poor judgments?

Let's be real here, the media always blows things out of proportion--especially it seems, when it involves college campuses. What sucks is, for ONE bad party gone awry, the media will make it out (as this article seems to do) as if the WHOLE college campus is full of party animals who are irresponsible and disrespectful college students. This is NOT the case. As someone who DOES party responsibly and yes, I'll admit, sometimes I can get a bit loud when I am drunk...But, I am still safe and responsible when I drink. I am smart about where I am partying, who I'm with and know to control myself to prevent myself from getting too extreme. I also party a good amount; but, still have a 3.7GPA at the moment. What I do on my own time during the semester does NOT affect my grades. It never has and never will. Yes, I get a few hangovers from time to time—but, I still show up to class and participate. There are MANY other kids like me, who party/have good times and STILL DO maintain GREAT GPA's and keep their grades up in the classes.

Thoughts?
The fact is this IS a college campus. You know what happens on college campuses? People are going to party. It's just how it goes. These people should have thought harder when it came to moving basically RIGHT ON a college campus. I mean, it's not like the college moved in there AFTER them. This college has been around for hundreds of years. Granted, maybe the partying has picked up a bit compared to past years, but, still...Maybe they should have really thought about the pros and cons a bit harder when thinking about purchasing their house right next to a college campus.

Don't get me wrong, I fully understand the dangers and actions of parties that can happen, but, it's all about learning from your mistakes and as long as you are cautious and party responsibly, there really is no problem. As someone who has been going to parties since I was about 15, I know my limits and when situations are leading to possible dangers--and I then take proper actions. Whether it is to leave the party, call the cops or help someone out...I know how to stay in control. I mean, like these people on Burrill Hill never "lived it up" when they were going to college or in their 20's.....Oh, wait….they probably did.

Okay, I vented a bit...Your thoughts?

  1. I WAS AT THE HONK IF WE'RE SEXY PARTY. Which wasn't a party at all; it was a let's get together and drink cause it's summer it's nice out gathering. The fact that it was freshman move in day was an added bonus. We weren't harming anyone/anything and there seriously only 15 of us. NBD.
